The Quest for the Origins of Vedic Culture: The Indo-Aryan Migration Debate

The Quest for the Origins of Vedic Culture: The Indo-Aryan Migration Debate
Western scholars have argued that Indian civilization was the joint product of an invading Indo-European people--the "Indo-Aryans"--and indigenous non-Indo European peoples. Although Indian scholars reject this European reconstruction of their country's history, Western scholarship gives little heed to their argument. In this book, Edwin Bryant explores the nature and origins of this fascinating debate.

The Rise of the Celts by Henri Hubert,
The Rise of the Celts by Henri Hubert,
In this classic of ethnology, a noted scholar traces the origins, history, and influence of the Celts on Indo-European peoples. Beginning with the earliest archaeological and linguistic evidence, he tracks the migration of Celts into Europe and as far west as the British Isles. An exceptionally thorough treatment of Celtic languages shows how their relationship to other tongues reveals information about Celtic origins and migrations. In addition, archaeological evidence--weapons, armor, pottery, and decorative ornament--from a variety of cultures is reviewed (particularly artifacts from Switzerland's Iron Age settlement of La Tene), and the expansion of the Celts in the British Isles and abroad during the Bronze Age and the Hallstatt Period is explored. Unabridged reprint of the classic 1934 edition. 141 line illustrations. 4 halftones. 12 maps.

Migration of Kambojas - References to Kambojas abound in ancient literature, and this may have been just the expansion of an Indo-European tribe with both Persian and Indic affinities from their homeland in the Afghanistan-Turkistan region along the foothills of the Himalayas towards Bengal, along the coast to Gujarat, to Sri Lanka, and possibly further to Cambodia.

Indo-European ablaut - In linguistics, the term ablaut (from German ab- in the sense "down, reducing" + Laut "sound") designates a system of vowel gradations in Proto-Indo-European and its far-reaching consequences in all of the modern Indo-European languages. Ablaut can also be called apophony, vowel gradation, or vowel alternation.
