Functional load - In linguistics and especially phonology, functional load refers to the importance of certain features in making distinctions in a language. English vowels, for example, have a very high functional load: there are innumerable sets of words distinguised just by their vowels, such as pin, pen, pan, pun, pain, pine. Computational linguistics - Computational linguistics is an interdisciplinary field dealing with the statistical and logical modeling of natural language from a computational perspective. This modeling is not limited to any particular field of linguistics. Journal of Language and Linguistics - Journal of Language and Linguistics is a large, refereed on-line journal, covering most areas of theoretical, applied and historical linguistics.
