Spelling Smart: A Ready-To-Use Activities Program for Students With Spelling Difficulties by Cynthia Stowe, Combining the best of whole language and phonics, this unique resource gives teachers in grades 4-12 a total of 44 easy-to-use lessons to teach students how to spell by recognizing spelling patterns and consistencies rather than memorizing hundreds of isolated words. Includes over 150 reproducible informal tests, word lists, and worksheets covering sounds, syllables, word building, and more.
Helping Children with Reading and Spelling: A Special Needs Manual by Rea Reason, Helping Children with Reading and Spelling contains a basic kit of suggestions to help children who struggle with learning to read and spell. The materials build on the content of an earlier manual, Learning Difficulties in Reading and Writing, which has been widely and successfully used by teachers. The detailed teaching sequences, combining the enjoyment of content with the more systematic practice of subskills, which were particularly appreciated in the earlier volume, have been further developed here. This book contains photocopiable materials and case examples. It is consistent with the English National Curriculum Programmes of Study and the Code of Practice on the Identification and Assessment of Special Educational Needs. Teachers using the manual will be following the school-based stages of intervention recommended by the Code and will be providing an invaluable basis for further action.
Merry England - The term Merry England, or in more jocular, half-timbered spelling Merrie England, refers to a semi-mythological, idyllic, and pastoral way of life that the inhabitants of England allegedly enjoyed at some poorly-defined point between the Middle Ages and the onset of the Industrial Revolution. It is a utopian and not completely consistent vision: a revisited England, "the thatched cottage, the country inn, the cup of tea, and Sunday roast". Pronunciation spelling - A pronunciation spelling of a word is a spelling intentionally different from the standard spelling, used to emphasize a particular pronunciation of the word. The spelling uses the regular spelling rules of the language. Calculator spelling - Calculator spelling is a technique of spelling words using a calculator equipped with seven-segment displays of different technologies, including but not limited to LCD, VFD, LED, Panaplex, etc. Spelling with Nixie tubes won't produce good readability of the upside-down characters, while spelling with dot-matrix displays, as well as with fourteen-segment and sixteen-segment displays is so obvious that it cannot be considered a technical curiosity. Consistent Life Ethic - The Consistent Life Ethic is a philosophical, ethical, religious, and political philosophy with the basic premise that "all human life is sacred", and that this calls for "a coherent social policy which seeks to protect the rights of the weakest and most vulnerable in our society, the unborn, the infirm, the refugee, the homeless, and the poor." Advocates of the Consistent Life Ethic are consequently opposed to abortion, capital punishment, "economic injustice", assisted suicide and euthanasia, and unjust war; some who hold the Consistent Life Ethic oppose all war.
